Island Pops 2021 NYC Labor Day Party Lineup

May we have a moment of silence for the cancelled carnivals all over the world, and the West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn? We definitely support the efforts to contain the spread of covid, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to miss the yearly celebrations. For those who don’t know, or who haven’t gotten to experience it, The Labor Day Parade is an annual celebration held on American Labor Day in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York City (where our shop is also located). The main event is the West Indian Day Parade, which attracts between one and three million people! The spectators and participants watch and follow the procession on its route along Eastern Parkway.

Carnival is the heartbeat of the Caribbean, and with such a present and lively diaspora of us in Brooklyn, the parade has been a highly anticipated event each year. From children getting to dress up in shiny costumes, to steel bands practising almost every night during the weeks leading up, the spirit of the islands resonates even more strongly throughout the concrete jungle during the last summer months. The innumerable Caribbean-owned businesses, especially restaurants, throughout Brooklyn New York are always whipping up something special this time of the year too. Iz a vibe.

But don’t cry yet, we are still celebrating Carnival in New York City this year! Our people are known to be resourceful and innovative. Turning limes into lime juice is Caribbean culture for sure. There may not be a parade, but the parties are still going to be pumping. Island Pops will be in the mix too, popping up at some of the best events this early September.

Island Pops will be at these Labor Day Events:

First up, you can bounce us up the Vale Vibe Food Inclusive On D' Yacht II August 21, 2021 aboard the HornBlower. This is a breakfast party and food inclusive event, so we’re meeting up early, before 9 am at Pier 40 at Hudson River Park.

Then on Labor Day Saturday, Sept 4th 2021 come see us at the night fete I am Soca "Midnight Glow" at the Socadrome; Music Hall of Williamsburg.

Next you can find us at Sunny side at Coney Island Art Walls on Sunday Sep 5th 2021, 2pm - 8pm. Havoc is also on Sept 5th, and we’ll be there too!

What’s on our Labor Day menu?

Since these are big-people parties, we’re going to give you big-people pops! At the breakfast parties we will be serving up a slew of breakfast cocktail popsicles and sorbets. Think boozy brunch type flavors. We’re talking Mimosa and Bellini popsicles, Sangria and a crowd favorite; Sorrel rum and Passionfruit rum pops!

You can also expect to find our Sorrel rum sorbet at the events. As well as Margarita sorbets, using different fruits from guava to strawberry, and of course the classic lime.

So as you can see, there is still plenty to celebrate and plenty to do in celebration. We are excited to buss a wine with you at the Labor day fetes! Let us know which parties you plan to attend, so that we can save you a rum pop or two.

Yours Truly,

Team IP
