Top 10 Ice Cream Flavors This Summer

As the weather warms up, the ice cream cravings get stronger! At Island Pops summer gives us so much to celebrate! As a Caribbean-owned business, we are proud to participate in Caribbean American Heritage Month all of June! We’re also excited for the West Indian Day parade in August. Summertime means plenty liming and fun outdoor snacking. We’ve compiled some of our most-loved flavors for the season, available in store and online for you to jump up with us! Remember, our ice cream is made with real fruit and spices, brought in from the Caribbean itself, so you will experience a strong, authentic taste.

1. Soursop

Soursop is a classic Caribbean staple when it comes to ice cream. We wrote a whole blog post about the flavor, speaking about its range of flavor from sweet to tangy. Check out the blog here. It was also with a soursop ice cream experiment that Island Pops came to be! In our Mother’s Day 2021 blog post, Khalid shared the story about how his wife and co-founder Shelly was craving Soursop ice cream while sick with chikungunya. Khalid tried his hand at making a batch to make Shelly feel better, and boom -- Island Pops was born.

2. Guinness Caramel

This well-loved favorite is a wild ride for the taste buds. We combined another class, smokey sweet Guinness ice cream, with creamy caramel for a new take on a well known flavor. The contrast of the caramel with the Guinness intensifies each of the ingredients.

3. Grapenut

By now you would notice we keep it coming with the classics! Grapenut is one of our best-sellers and a wildly popular go-to in Jamaica. We dug deep into the history and origins of this malty cereal based flavor in a recent blog article you can check out here!

4. Sorrel Rum Sorbet

You don’t have to wait for Christmas to enjoy some fresh sorrel! On the blog we share our sorrel recipe, natural sorrel that we combine with real rum, to churn out this boozy sorbet for you. A cup  or cone of our Sorrel Rum sorbet is festive and bright and perfect for a weekend lime and frolic.

5. Guava Cheesecake

Think of this ice cream as a deconstructed cheesecake, with guava jam churned into the base, and Ovaltine biscuits crushed up like a crust for crunch. Tart guava mixes gently into smooth cheesecake, creating an ice cream that is sweet with subtle sour notes, bright freshness and textural decadence.

6. Nutmeg

Where my Spice posse at? Nutmeg is an instantly recognizable spice, synonymous with the island of Grenada. We pay tribute with its unique flavor profile, presenting an ice cream dedicated to this single showstopping spice, reminiscent of baked desserts and even rum punch!

7. Ovaltine

Ovaltine is a nostalgic hot malt drink brand many Caribbean adults might remember from their childhood. We enjoyed a hot cup in the mornings and in the evenings, and even had Ovaltine biscuits packed in our lunch kits to take to school! As a boy, Khalid used to eat dry Ovaltine by the spoon, chomping down on the crumbley bits without milk! This ice cream flavor is a throwback to those days, but instead of sipping the sweet maltiness in a hot mug (or in Khalid’s case, dry in a spoon), we have a cold, creamy version you can scoop and savor.

8. Passionfruit Cake

This one is for celebrating, that’s for sure! And to be clear, every day we have life is a means for celebration. We mix bits of vanilla sponge cake into passionfruit ice cream. Experiencing the soft chew of cake pieces with the sunny taste of fresh passion fruit is an enjoyable ride for sure.

9. Rum and Raisin

For many Caribbean ice cream veterans, Rum and Raisin is one of the first flavors that might come to mind. We’ve amped up the classic with real dark seasoned rum and plump raisins, making sure each mouthful goes to your head just a bit!

10. Rum Punch Sorbet

Brunch meets dessert in this boozy sorbet. Rum punch is the true MVP of Caribbean cocktails. In our sorbet, we combine dark rum with mango, guava, passionfruit and lime juice, spiced with a touch of nutmeg. We can barely keep up with the requests for this flavor in the summertime! It is necessary for all your summer vibes!
